Howl’s Moving Castle Anime Miyazaki Movie Reviews

Today, I wanted to review the Howl’s moving castle movie. Its a movie based on a novel written by Diana Wynne Jones. Its a children’s classic. The film itself was made by Studio Ghibli’s Miyazaki. They say its hard to outdo your best. However, Miyazaki managed to surpass the success of Spirited Away. Like most of his movies, Howl’s moving castle is the tale of love. Its the story of the romance between Sophie and Howl.

Sophie was the owner of a hat shop. One day she gets saved by Howl, who was being chased by the wicked witch of the west. Sophie fears falling in love with Howl. He is beautiful and she thinks she is plain. She does not want her heart to be broken. She imagines that he will never love a plain girl like herself. That very day , the wicked witch of the west goes to see her. She curses Sophie because Sophie would not help her find Howl.

The curse turned Sophie into an old hag. In her old lady form, she seeks Howl. If you want to know more, watch the rest of the movie. What I like best about the movie is how the movie is about Howl’s castle. Throughout the movie, they indirectly show you all the awesome things that the castle can do. Its first hidden secret is how the castle is bounded to the demon familiar, Calcifer.

He is the heart and soul of the castle. Aside from walking (and later flying), the castle grows bigger and smaller. It has a magical door that takes you places. The black setting is the most mysterious. Around the end, it took Sophie back in time. It was also the door that Howl took whenever he went to war. There are other cheesy themes, like self confidence, the cruelty of war, love conquers all, ect. However, they are not too important. In any case, the anime movie of Howl’s Moving Castle is a 5 stars worthy film.
